Shaping the Future of Facilities Management
The Occupational Certificate: Facilities Manager equips professionals with essential skills and knowledge to effectively manage, coordinate, and optimise facilities operations across diverse sectors. This qualification ensures that learners are well-prepared to oversee complex facilities management (FM) functions, focusing on efficiency, sustainability, risk management, and compliance.
The learning format follows the QCTO’s Knowledge Modules (KM), Practical Modules (PM), and Workplace Modules(WM) approach, integrating theoretical principles with real-world applications. Learners will develop expertise in contract management, asset optimisation, strategic planning, financial oversight, and leadership in facilities management. This programme aligns with industry best practices and global FM standards.
After completing all Knowledge and Practical Modules, learners will undertake the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA). This formal competency evaluation is required for certification, ensuring graduates demonstrate applied knowledge and practical proficiency in facilities management before earning their qualification.
This qualification is offered as a funded or unfunded learnership over 24 months, allowing learners to gain skills while working in their current roles or transitioning into leadership positions.

The qualification comprises three components, namely:
Knowledge Modules (KM)
Module provides the theoretical and conceptual foundation required for an occupation. It includes industry standards, regulations, principles, and best practices to perform specific job functions effectively.
- Delivered in a structured classroom or e-learning environment.
- It covers the theoretical knowledge required for a specific occupational role (e.g., FM structures, service delivery models, regulatory frameworks, and risk management).
- Assessed through written exams, assignments, and case studies to evaluate understanding before practical application.
Practical Modules (PM)
The Practical Module focuses on hands-on skills and technical competencies required to execute job-specific tasks. It bridges the gap between theory and real-world application by developing proficiency in specific techniques and processes.
- Learners engage in simulated or structured practical exercises related to their occupation.
- It covers specific skill sets, such as using software, conducting facility audits, preparing budgets, and implementing maintenance plans.
- Assessed through practical demonstrations, role plays, case-based assessments, and scenario-based exercises.
Workplace Module (WM)
The Workplace Module ensures learners gain real-world, on-the-job experience by applying theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a working environment.
- It requires structured workplace experience under the supervision of a qualified mentor.
- Learners must demonstrate competence in real-world tasks, such as managing facility operations, monitoring service providers, or implementing an asset management plan.
Assessed through workplace logbooks, supervisor reports, and competency evaluations.
